Why do I do drag?
My drag is a love letter to my younger self. Growing up in the uniformity of the Philly suburbs, I naturally felt like an outcast, and “fag” was a word I grew accustomed to. I loved Polly Pocket and didn’t feel like I had the right to be a “man.” All I wanted to do was paint my nails pink, be Eponine in Les Mis, and collect Beanie Babies. I remember telling my mom that if Tom Boys were a thing, then I was a “Sally Girl.”--What a precious babe. As I grew up, I still had the same confusion about my gender, and found that drag was a beautiful art form to explore it. In drag, I can do all the things I wanted to do as a little kid and teenager--all the things I was bullied for because they were "too girlie," and celebrate them!

about the show
Michael, a bullied femme boy in the Philly suburbs, is determined to end the middle school torture with the best Bar Mitzvah ever! But all is tarnished when the DJ plays Diana Ross’s iconic gay anthem “I’m Coming Out" for his Bar Mitzvah party entrance. What should have been a day of celebration is clouded by rumors that Michael came out at his Bar Mitzvah—and his adolescence is stained forever.
Now, Pink Pancake, Michael’s drag persona, is diving into the memory to offer some repair. Join Michael and Pancake as they embark on a hilarious and earnest journey to discover and accept who they are… in the most FABULOUS outfits hunny!
